Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Cuba H.E Dr. Genet Teshome Jirru held a fruitful discussion with H.E Tania Margarita Cruz Hernández, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Cuba, on January 6, 2024 on ways of revitalizing health sector cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, H.E Ambassador Dr. Genet Teshome highlighted that cooperation in the field of health is a flagship bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Cuba and reiterated the keen interest of Ethiopia in further strengthening cooperation. His Excellency also pointed out the importance of the recent ministerial meeting of the Health Ministries of the two countries, held in Addis Ababa and aimed at strengthening cooperation.
The Deputy Minister, on her part, explained the rich experience and capacity of Cuba in public health, and Cuba’s interest in further strengthening cooperation with Ethiopia in health sector. Her Excellency also stated that joint preparations are well underway to identify core areas of cooperation, such as enhancing primary health care, human resource development in public health, institutional collaboration and experience sharing, explore potentials for manufacturing pharmaceuticals, vaccine development and others.
H.E Ambassador Dr. Genet Teshome mentioned that the Ethiopian Embassy in Havana stands ready to support and facilitate initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in the health sector between the two countries.
